Saint Emilion and Saint Emilion Grand Cru AC's


The Saint Emilion and Saint Emilion Grand Cru AC’s are located at 40 km east of the city of Bordeaux and 8km from Libourne.  The vineyard area is spread over 9 district areas: Saint Emilion, Saint Christophe des Bardes, Saint Hippolyte, Saint Etienne de Lisse, Saint Laurent des Combes, Saint Pey d’Armens, Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens, Vignonet and a part of the district of Libourne.


With 5500 hectares of planted vineyard area, Saint Emilion produces on average 250,000 hectoliters of wine, accounting for 5% of the Bordeaux area red wine production.  67.5% of the total surface area of the  production districts and 6% of the entire vineyard surface area of the Bordeaux wine region.  The Merlot represents over 60% of the planted grape varieties of Saint Emilion together with Cabernet Franc (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and to a much lesser extent Malbec.  The minimum plantation density is 5500 plants per hectare.
